Hamusonde Muntanga: Founder & CEO of Thinkers Tech

Hamusonde Muntanga was born on November 14, 2006, in Livingstone, Zambia, the town at the edge of Victoria Falls that later became home to the company he founded. He wrote his first lines of code at 11, years before he had a name for what he was doing, teaching himself to build by building. By 15, that self-taught skill had turned into a business: he founded Thinkers Tech.

Business wasn't something he grew into later. Muntanga has been drawn to it since childhood, and he traces some of that instinct back to chess, a hobby he still plays: a game built on patient, structural thinking that shows up in how he approaches both software and company-building today. That combination, a self-taught engineer's instinct for building and an entrepreneur's instinct for spotting a real problem worth solving, is what turned Thinkers Tech from a teenager's project into a company focused on digitizing businesses across Africa.

He holds a degree in Computer Science from Mulungushi University, earned while building Thinkers Tech rather than putting the company on hold for it.

One of the clearest examples of his approach is Katemba, a point-of-sale system he built for shop owners to track stock and sales without the manual guesswork that costs small retailers money every week. The project was covered by ZNBC, Zambia's national broadcaster, in a segment titled "A 17 year old Livingstone youth has developed a software that helps shop owners keep track of stock," recognition of the kind of practical, close-to-the-ground problem-solving Thinkers Tech was built around. In 2026, Muntanga and his team competed at the ZAMREN Hackathon, hosted by the Zambia Research and Education Network, where they built a digital ID system.

That same year, he received the TrailBlaizer Award at the ICTAZ Mulungushi University Chapter Gala Night, presented by the Information and Communications Technology Association of Zambia in recognition of outstanding excellence, achievement, and impact.

None of it has slowed down the actual work. Thinkers Tech exists to walk African businesses through the full journey from first idea to fully digital enterprise, and Muntanga still treats every client the way he treated that first point-of-sale system: find the problem that's actually costing someone money or time, and build the thing that fixes it.
